I thank God for the privilege of knowing and enjoying fellowship with Ivor Oakley, particularly at a time when I came to feel increasingly isolated in my understanding of the long-established doctrines of grace. It was reassuring and inspiring to find someone who shared the same beliefs; all the more so because of his infinitely superior learning and experience.
I first came to know Ivor and Esme when he agreed to supply a regular ministry to the small Baptist church in which I was a deacon during much of Ivor's time as Principal of the Scottish Baptist College, when we were blessed in giving hospitality to both of them on frequent occasions.
After his retiral my wife and I enjoyed fellowship with them on several occasions at Guisborough.
Although very learned, Ivor was always practical, and gave me much valuable advice as a lay preacher. I recall one such occasion when, with a twinkle in his eye, he said, "Neverunderestimate the value of the children's addres ;sometimes it's the only thing the adults remember!
Only eternity will reveal the impact of his teaching and ministry. |

Ivor was not only an inspiration to me, but probebly the most significant influence on me as a Christian. He was my pastor who baptised me, my tutor at College who taught me, and ultimately my friend. This is a wonderful website which I will visit regularly. |

I recall the day when he was lecturing at the IBC and leant over the lectern and said with passion and great feeling "Remember, few men finish well.". That had a profound effect on me. He finished well. |
